The shrine of Waris Shah is located in Jandiala Sher Khan, 14km from Sheikhupura. He was well-known for his literary & spiritual work. His tragic romance of ‘Heer Ranjha’ is probably the best known work from this region. Waris Shah was the Sufi poet of the Chishti order and was born in Jandiala Sher Khan (presently in District Sheikhupura) in the 18th century. He wrote his magnum opus Heer in the village of Malka Hans near Pakpattan. He spent most of his life span near a mosque which is now known as Masjid Waris Shah. He saw many historic upheavals during his era which helped him to shape his finest piece of art the Heer. The shrine of Waris Shah actually lies about seven kilometers from the Lahore-Islamabad motorway, at the Hiran Minar Exchange. The infrastructure of the tomb is fairly modern in its appeal. The architecture of the shrine, as well as the lay-out of the adjoining grounds, borrows heavily from Mughal influences, resulting in a sprawling space. Octagonal in shape with arched corridors, the major part of tomb is made of red bricks. The exterior of the tomb has also been embellished with frescoes from Multan.
