Rising from the sands of the Cholistan Desert, the Derawar Fort is a colossal square fortress with 40 towering bastions, visible from miles away. Originally built in the 9th century by the Rajput rulers, it was later captured and expanded by the Nawabs of Bahawalpur.
The fort’s massive brick walls, each over 30 meters high, enclose ancient royal quarters and mosques that once symbolized the region’s power. Its commanding presence over the barren landscape gives it an almost mythical aura.
Today, the Derawar Fort stands as a monument to resilience and history, a silent guardian of Bahawalpur’s royal past and the mysteries of the Cholistan sands.
